INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE - BOOK RE-DESIGN + PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN
Objective: To re-design any book of my choice and Design a promotional campaign for a series of books, including the newly re-designed, Interview with the Vampire.
Description: This particular design is a re-design project that I was given in my third year of art and design school. I was given the freedom to choose any book of my choice, with valid reason. As you can see, my choice was Interview with the Vampire. I chose this particular book because not only is it in my top ten list of great books but, I was also not impressed with the cover of the paperback sitting on my bookshelf. It, in no way, alluded to the mood of the story. I chose to first capture the mood by using the black letter typeface as an elegant design element and then capture the darkness of the vampire chronicles with mysterious and eerie photos in the chapter intros.
The promotional campaign, featuring Interview with the Vampire plus other books included in the "Fresh Book Series at Borders Book Stores," was the most fun part of this particular project. The promotional materials include the poster, bookmark, and brochure. All of the items had to be designed to fit together as one whole piece but also contain elements from the book re-design. The poster is the best example of this collaboration of designs.
